Stirling University

shrubbery are spectacular and the loch at its centre is a joy to walk
around. There is also a
small Golf course open to the public. Stirling University has a major
sports complex that is open to visitors. All of this is within a 15 min
walk from Kerrann B&B
MacRoberts Arts Centre
Located on the stunning campus of the University of Stirling, this Arts Centre includes a state-of-the art cinema, children's art gallery, theatre space and a stylish cafe bar.
The Falkirk Wheel
Spectacular centrepiece of the UK’s largest canal restoration project. The Falkirk Wheel is the first rotating boat lift in the world. Facilities include an interactive exhibition, outdoor play area and cafe.
Dollar Glen and Castle Campbell
Castle Campbell is located at the head of Dollar Glen, immediately to the north of Dollar. The castle itself was designed to serve two main purposes. Firstly to provide adequate defence, though the castle would never have been able to survive artillery attack. The entrance gateway was strengthened sufficiently to ward off a lightly armed raid but no more. Secondly, the castle was a statement of the lord's wealth and power, and as such should be an imposing sight. Castle Campbell certainly fulfills this function, even today. This is a good day out with a walk up Dollar Glen and a visit to this castle.
Days out by car
Gateway to the heart of Scotland, Stirling lies where the rugged peaks of the Highlands brush with the gentle slopes of the lowlands. Large enough to be deemed a city yet small and compact enough to enjoy the feel of a close community, Stirling centres around its imposing Medieval Castle, one of Scotland`s most important historical fortresses. The roads that lead up to it, or `The Top of the Town` as the area is fondly known, lends Stirling a historic and picturesque appeal, with cobbles, renaissance townhouses and magnificent views to the surrounding hills. Visit the nearby Church of the Holy Rude or take an eye-opening tour of Stirling Old Town Jail, before moving on to one of the city`s restaurants, whose cosmopolitan menus offer everything ranging from Italian to French, Indian to Greek cuisine.
Being centrally located and equidistant from both the East and West coast, Stirling enjoys the ideal position for exploring the very best of what Scotland has to offer. If you`re touring by car, be sure to head West of the city on the Dumbarton road and discover the area`s highlights as you enter the heather-clad moorland of the Trossachs, a landscape of hills, mountains and rocky crags punctuated by tranquil lochs. Take the B8034 north at Arnprior for the Lake of Menteith to visit the ruins of the 13th century Inchmahome Priory, former haunt of Mary Queen of Scots. Lying on the fringes of Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, this is the start of a 25 mile scenic drive encircling Loch Achray and Loch Venachar via Dukes Pass north of Aberfoyle. The route takes in several miles of spectacular woodland scenery whose colours are breathtaking during the Autumn months.
Heading North-eastwards, Stirling lies within easy reach of Glen Eagles, one of the world`s finest golf courses and one of many championship venues across the region. This is the gateway to the Ochills, Perthshire and Kinross, an area of lush forests, rolling farmland and breathtaking waterfalls. Head along the A9 towards Perth and visit the fairytale castle of Kincardine, the perfect venue for concerts. At nearby Blackford, visitors can also take a tour of the famous Tulliebardine distillery where whisky has been brewed for centuries thanks to the purity of the natural Spring water from the local hills. Popular scenic drives in the area also take in Loch Leven with its island castle and Queen`s View at Loch Tummel - one of the most famous and breathtaking views in the country.
International and domestic flights are now available to Glasgow from dozens of airports throughout the UK and beyond, so these stunning touring opportunities have never been more accessible to everyone. If you`re planning a short break in Scotland and heading for the Stirling area there are plenty of opportunities for car rental in Glasgow either direct from the airport or from the city centre. From here the route up to Stirling takes under an hour along the M80 through arrestingly dramatic countryside. If there`s time for a detour, be sure to head West into the Loch Lomond National Park. The area`s misty glens and eerie mountain peaks stir up a sense of nostalgic solitude like no other place on earth.
